I am 1 in 4

The official statistic for people suffering with mental health issues is one in four. That’s a huge number, yet there is an equally huge stigma surrounding mental health. I Am 1 In 4 mental health campaign was named for this statistic and is the brainchild of Tom Wavre, who firmly believes that stigma does not derive from malice or spite but from ignorance.

I am 1 in 4

A mental health blogging platform, I am 1 in 4 seeks to get people talking about mental health and subsequently break the stigma that surrounds it.

How did I get involved?

I first became involved with I Am 1 In 4 mental health campaign after I tentatively submitted one of my early blog articles (Snow) to them to be republished on their website and social media. It was the first time I’d put my writings out into the world beyond my online friend lists, and I didn’t seriously expect them to accept it. But, I thought, what was the worst that could happen?

I was completely and utterly over the moon when they contacted me to say they were going to publish it! My self-indulgent musings and ramblings were considered worthwhile by those who did not know me. Hurrah!!

Emboldened, I submitted more of my ramblings and was delighted again when they too were republished.

Hurrah!! Hurrah!!

And now?

Now, I volunteer for them in my spare time!

Learn about trackers

Using a daily tracker and journal can help you take control of your day and track your emotions to start improving your mental health.

Share your story

If like me you have a story to tell, I urge you to share your story with them by submitting it using the share form on their website.

To Be Continued

To Be Continued is the first of two books produced by I am 1 in 4 so far. It is an anthology of real life stories of those who have experienced mental health issues that have been submitted to the campaign over the years.

Peer Support

Amongst their other services, I Am One In Four have a team of peer support workers readily available to offer advice and support 24/7 via Facebook. All you need to do is message their page and a volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.

Use a daily tracker

The second book is the Mental Health Daily Tracker and Journal as spoken about by Tom Wavre in "Learn about a tracker". This is particularly popular and has been reported as having been beneficial to many of 1in4s followers.
